IFSC Executive Board Teleconference June 2019
The IFSC Executive Board came together on the 18th June for their monthly teleconference, just one week after the final Bouldering event of the 2019 IFSC Sport Climbing season in Vail, Colorado (USA).
Membership matters were first brought to the table, with updates to the IFSC’s Member Federations put forward to the Executive Board. Administration Director Francesca Jengo next announced to the Board the signing of a contract for a new IFSC Office in Torino, Italy starting from September 2019, to accommodate the ever-growing number of IFSC employees. The Board were then brought up to speed on the IFSC Solidarity Programme 2019, of which the application deadline was Wednesday 19th June.
The progression of the IFSC’s strategic plan was next discussed, with plans raised for a workshop during the IFSC Youth World Championships in Arco, Italy in August and the Climbing Summit in Torino, Italy later this year.
A report of the 2019 IFSC Bouldering World Cup season was offered by the Sport Department, who then moved on to look at the IFSC 2020 event calendar and provide the Board with an update on the status of the ANOC Beach Games, recently relocated to Doha, Qatar. Sport Director Silvia Verdolini concluded the Sport Department’s topics with an overview of the IFSC Official Sport Equipment Catalogue.
Paraclimbing was then deliberated ahead of the IFSC Paraclimbing World Championships in Briançon, France, next month, with the highest number of athletes in history currently registered to compete. Preparations for the implementation of the Paraclimbing Development Plan were also put forward.
Marketing & Communications Director Anne Fuynel informed the Board of Broadcast updates and developments in venue management, as well as introducing the Executive Board to the team’s newest member, Event Sponsor & Media Officer Marco Vettoretti. Plans for the 2020 season were then introduced, paying particular attention to sponsor management and webcasting.
Insight was next given to Sport Climbing’s participation in the Olympic Games, with IFSC Head of Olympic Coordination Jérôme Meyer providing updates surrounding Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024 and the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2022. Next week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is set to confirm the IFSC’s participation in the Olympic Games Paris 2024, alongside three other new sports.
The next teleconference of the IFSC Executive Board will take place on 10th July at 14.00 CEST.
